Arizona uses rolling admission, so the sooner a student applies the sooner they will hear back! Our application can be found here and can usually be completed in an hour or less.

Application Review Process: First-Year Students

Students are Assured Admission to Arizona if they attend a regionally accredited high school, rank in the top 25 percent of their graduating class, and have no coursework deficiencies or earn an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher in their core coursework. A detailed list of the course requirements is available on our ABOR Course Competencies page.

All students who do not meet the above requirements for Assured Admission will be evaluated through our Comprehensive Review Process. You can view more details about Comprehensive Review on our Applicant Review Process page.

In-Person Visit Opportunities

We are excited to offer a variety of in-person events, tours, and visits for students, parents, and counselors! Please refer to our visit website for a full list of events.

Tri-University Counselor Updates

These in-person workshops allow you to connect with all three in-state public universities while exploring a campus of your choice. All three in-state public universities - University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and Arizona State University - will be in attendance at all of the events. The information provided will be the same at each workshop, so you only need to register for the event that best fits your schedule. More information and registration details are available on the Tri-University Counselor Update website.

As the new academic year gets started, college-bound students might have questions about applying to NAU, how to start their scholarship search, and what steps to take once they have been admitted.

Here’s a helpful guide to assist:

Applying to NAU: We ask students to self-report their 14 core courses in the application. Good news! The application is free for Arizona residents!
Tuition scholarships: Students are automatically considered for one of our Freshman Tuition Scholarships when they apply to the NAU. Awarding typically occurs three to four weeks after an offer of admission. Note: Requirements have changed from previous years.
Next Steps to Enrollment: Once a student is admitted and ready to accept their offer, they will be directed to their Next Steps to Enrollment.
Honors College: Once admitted, students can apply to the Honors College. The application opens on Sep. 1, with a Nov. 15 deadline for Honors Scholarship consideration.
Visit NAU: We are excited to continue our on-campus events for students that want to make the trip to Flagstaff. Students can explore campus by attending one of our Daily Campus Presentations or Special Events, including our upcoming Discover NAU event.

We’re also excited to share that students who are on track to graduate high school with a 2.75+ unweighted core GPA in the 14 core classes will be assured admission to NAU!

Continuing our commitment to accessibility, NAU's Access2Excellence initiative ensures tuition coverage through a combination of scholarships and federal grants for Arizona residents with a verified household income of $65,000 or below or those enrolled in one of Arizona’s 22 federally recognized tribes.

What’s up with the FAFSA®?

This year’s FAFSA® has been delayed until December to give the government time to enact several big, anticipated changes, including:

The FAFSA® is projected to open in December (delayed from the usual Oct 1 open date)
The new FAFSA® form will be shorter (fewer questions)
The language on the FAFSA® is more closely aligned with the language on income tax returns
The SAI (Student Aid Index) replaces the EFC (Expected Family Contribution), and contains new formulas for calculating eligibility. In particular:
Having multiple children in college will no longer reduce SAI, which may result in reduced eligibility for financial aid for some families.
Qualified 529 distributions from grandparents, etc. will not reduce aid
Education savings accounts will only be counted if designated for the specific student. (ESAs for other children won’t be considered.)
Eligibility for the Pell Grant is expanded to families earning 225% of the poverty line (so about $67,500 for a family of four)
For divorced parents, families will need to report the higher-earning parent (previously, they reported the parent that the child resided with more often)
